Neighborly Spruce

  • 5012 SW Prince St 5012 SW Prince St Seattle, WA, 98116 (map)

Our previous visits to my neighbor Mary’s home along the College Street Ravine have gone very well. We rung the closest ravine trees of ivy, peeled it off the cyclone fence, raised the undercanopies on the trees for better access to the yard, and removed blackberries and other invasives. We’ve cleared probably 1/3 of the yard of ground ivy and chipped it, have made rafts along the ravine hillside for the cut material to decompose on top of, and have opened up a side yard area that was totally covered in blackberries and other invasives.

We’ll head back this week for round three. We’ll continue clearing along the west side of her house where there used to be a greenhouse, others can continue on pulling the remaining ground ivy and then we’ll stage it down the hillside for decomposition. At the end of this cleanup we should be in a great place to assess final needs in the backyard and readying it for spreading with more woodchips.

Come on out and see the progress, this has been a very meaningful and important series along the greenbelt.
